Yay for Play

This is more like it.  I stayed working on this no pressure vest and it is working its magic.  I might get back to Hacho tomorrow.  That is future and you just never know what will happen.

When I cast on the vest I had no firm intention in mind.  I only knew that I had enough yarn for a vest so that is what I started knitting.  Without really meaning to,  I seem to be exploring something that has been bugging me.

I started that sweater with such hope but found that I had picked the wrong size and because of one thing in the way it started, wasn't sure where to go next.  I loved what I learned knitting it and have used that on the last sweater I finished.  The way it fit at the back of my neck was better than anything I had made before, but Anyday itself seemed out of my league.

When I cast on this vest, I wanted to keep that back neck fit so I did what Anyday did but for the selvedge or foundation knitting.  I never really thought about it but I found myself thinking about the shaping and went in a very different direction.

This is where I am right now, with one partial front shoulder complete and the other well on the way.  I did not get much done and yet, I went miles.  I was babying my hands (too much game play on my tablet) so I took it easy and let my mind wander and let my needles go where they would.

I am pretty pleased with it so far.  The magical thing is happening at the back.

This is what is called a European shoulder, where the front shoulder goes over your shoulder apex and meets a shaped back yoke that forces the neck to sit closer to your neck.  This was one of the things that drew me to the Anyday Sweatshirt.  It is seen in a lot of patterns right now and I love the look and I love the fit.

That marker you see is the shoulder where the front yoke will sit at the top of my shoulder.  If this vest works out and if the fit is right, then I am ready to make another attempt to knit the Anyday Sweatshirt.  I will understand what I need to do to get the fit what I want it to be and I can defeat the problem I had with the foundation piece.

It's a bit hard to put into words to explain what I mean about not understanding the way it needs to fit me but down the road, when I get to Anyday, it will be clearer.

Yay me and yay for playing with my knitting. I am feeling pretty chuffed about it all and that ought to get me back to being friends with the Hacho sweater, plus I will have a nifty new vest as well.
