Thinking about knitting

Since I had my medical thing back in November, and since I am generally feeling a hundred times better, I have spent many hours thinking about my knitting.  I particularly started to realize the things I am missing since discovering the problem in my sock drawer.  There are things I know are missing from my perfect knitted wardrobe and I have been contemplating their replacement.

Long time gone is my favorite shawl ever.

It was a long shallow shawl, a sontag style,  that I could wrap around my waist, acting as an almost vest, almost cardigan, allowing free movement as I went about my day.  I wore it all the time, to the point that great swathes of the ends were just falling apart.   It has been gone a while now and I may have the yarn to replace it.  I would love to use Briggs and Little again.  It's such a sturdy yarn, great for wearing everyday, and capable of taking the wear and tear of life.  I love the way a Sontag wraps around you feeling like a hug.

The other thing I have always wanted to reknit was a sweater like my Elysium sweater/vest.

It is all vertically knit garter stitch and you could be forgiven for thinking it would be boring but there is always something going on.  It's  all about the short rows with none of the stress of picking up the wraps.  Part of what made that sweater special was that it was made from Custon Woollen Mills yarn, a yarn that is the coziest thing on the planet.

I would love to knit myself a Ruana.   The Wikipedia article will help you understand them, just click on the word Ruana.  Most often they are made as if two long wide scarves are sewn together down the back but are otherwise open.  You wear them with the fronts tossed over your shoulder or belted at your waist.  I know that on short wide me, it wouldn't be a great look, but I don't care.  It would be warm and wonderful, a nice drapable almost blanket , that could be wrapped and belted into place and worn anywhere. And no, I don't mean a poncho, or a cape.  Just a plain workable ruana.

I could also use another set or two of washable simple wristwarmers for daytime wear.  For days, the kind of wrsitwamer that goes up to cover your fingers is problematic.  What I need is just a simple band to go around the wrist.  It keeps my pulse point warm and my hands stay warmer.  I had some a couple winters ago that I wore often but I have no idea where they went to.  It would be nice to have some again.

I think of fine things too.  Lace shawls and beautiful yarns and cozy mohair. Sigh.  Such cozy goodness.  I also think about knits for my garden of my mini house.  Knits and embroideries.  And that takes me to volcanoes.

So much to do, so many things to think about and dream about.

This post is a kind of extra.  I am going to write tonight.  It really helps fill my evenings these days, which have been a real struggle since I haven't been able to knit.
